Is your smile marred by imperfections like missing teeth? Do you long to restore your smile to its former glory? Ask Dr. Sean Kennelly about getting a dental bridge in Centennial, Colorado. Dental bridges are used to “bridge” the gap caused by missing teeth. Dental bridges can do the following:
- Restore your smile
- Improve your ability to chew and speak properly
- Maintain your facial volume and shape
- Distribute your bite forces properly
- Prevent your natural teeth from shifting
What are the different types of dental bridges?
There are three types of dental bridges. Traditional bridges use a crown for the tooth on either side of the gap and a false tooth in between. The teeth bordering the gap, called abutment teeth, are used to anchor the bridge in place. Cantilever bridges are used when there is only an abutment tooth on one side of the gap; however, cantilever bridges are not used much anymore and are not recommended for use in the back of the mouth. Maryland bonded bridges are supported by a metal or porcelain framework. This framework has wings on either side that are bonded to your natural teeth.
